was the last thing my brother corrected me about before we lost him. We were on the road seeing Live Music and heard Gov`t Mule and Magpie Salute close with this in Ohio. Karl leaned in and asked if I knew who did this song. I said I thought it was written by Steve Marriott, and he looked at me sharply and replied I think it was first done by Fleetwood Mac, and I looked back just as sharply as he did. A few days later I sent him an e-mail telling him he was right and that Peter Green had written it............and he said: Do I know my music ?!! It was the last I ever heard from him...............the next e-mail I sent him had this in it with my heading saying we lost another one, and saying: Look who he`s standing with(because we had been at Derek St. Holmes wedding reception 2 years before and I pissed off Derek for standing in his favorite spot; especially since he had no idea who I was and it was always a chuckle between my brother and I since that day)..................but he was in a coma in Vanderbilt University in Nashville, waiting to be taken off of life support, by then.

Many years ago my brother gave me the original bootleg that had been circulating on a burnt CD and I`ve been enjoying it ever since ! When I saw that it was being offered this fall at Record Store Day, I knew I Had To Have It !!! Feat was my main band for many years, especially after getting to see the 2nd incarnation of the band with Lowell still alive and Larger Than Life on stage. When I opened up this Gate Fold cover, I saw in large letters " If You Bought This Set, You Know What You Have" No Shit ! That is as far as anybody who opened what they bought ! I`ll bet more than half of the pressings were originally sold to profiteers looking to make the big bucks from guys like me who Love Feat, but live nowhere close to a Record Store Day store. I luckily made a trip to the city to see Hot Tuna and found one still not originally purchased for $35. Good luck getting one close to that now ! It`s right up there with "Waiting For Columbus", although WFC has more selection of great songs as more were written and recorded in the 3 years between the recording of them. Also WFC has taken the best takes over multiple shows and the package I just bought was one continual flow of a day`s performance.

We had guests at this show of Bruce Katz, Jack Pearson, Elizabeth Pearson, Jimmy Hall, Johnny Neel, Glen Caruba, James van de Bogert, Gary Forkum, and John Bell. First time I was ever to The Ryman with my brother Karl. We met Allen Woody`s father Doug that night. He was wearing his jean jacket with Gov`t Mule across the top, with a cross in the middle and Allen, Warren, and Matt`s names to the left, right, and below it. My son and I would then meet up with him at Asheville N.C. in December for Warren Haynes` Christmas Jam. We had the room next to him in Asheville and talked to him about his son on 2 occasions over 3 days and he was again wearing the jean jacket. I wish I had taken a picture of it !.......all good stuff ! I got a poster from the show. I passed on getting one at the show, so I wouldn`t have to drag it around. The next morning my brother and I went down to The Hatch Print Shop(original shop before the flood that destroyed it later that year) They had no more to sell, but my brother talked them out of one of their ones they always keep after a project. Thank You again Cathy ! My brother talked shop with her until she gave in. My brother was a 3rd generation printer with my grandfather coming from Pressman`s home in Eastern Tennessee where most pressmen on the east coast were trained back in the day I used to go there in the 60s......at 3 minutes in, my grandfather is the one closest to the camera setting type. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVm2V0ghktc&t=1s . Always love seeing Audley Freed guesting in Nashville. He and Warren Blend Well ! We loved it when he came out with his yellow SG ! Especially to play some Beatles as Woody loved........Audley also played on Cortez The Killer, and Ventilator Blues......which is bitter sweet now since we had to take Karl off the ventilator so he could draw his last breath 6 days after our last Mule show together in 2018................................Karl & I LOVED Audley`s playing !

Then the day after, they got a terrible ice storm that shut down Nashville and a lot of kentucky, but I had to get back to Pennsylvania. So I took a couple hours the next morning getting all the ice off my `98 F-150 4WD and took off for home . Cars and tractor trailers all over the place and upside down until I got halfway up through Kentucky. Had many a state trooper try and flag me off the highways but I just kept on a truckin`.......in 4WD at about 50 mph blazing a trail where southerners fear to go. More fun than stock car driving ! Had the tunes playin` and kept on pushin`...........Great memories from that trip.

Gov`t Mule/Beacon Theatre; N.Y.C., N.Y.(12/30/11)/3 CDs/2012

The only time I ever did the 2 night Mule Years Eve thing, at The Beacon Theatre in New York City, was 10 years ago today. My brother Karl and I had 4th row center seats for both nights. I met my brother Karl at the Beacon Hotel and we checked out the surrounding area and visited and met his friend George and his 3 kids(all from South Dakota). George and I have been friends since. We all had bought the deluxe package deal with choice seats in the theatre and rooms at the hotel for both nights. We also got download cards for both shows, posters, Mule Year`s Eve T-Shirts and a merch bag(backpack) with other goodies. We then had a meet and great with photos with the band after we were to soundcheck the first night after a welcome party at a nearby bar with food and drinks. This was the only time in my life that I saw the same band two nights in a row. We had guests this first night of David Hidalgo, Hook Herrera, Jimmy Vivino, Nigel Hall, Paul Ill.

10 years ago today I woke up in the Beacon Hotel n New York City, after seeing/hearing our first night of Gov`t Mule in the Theatre. After hearing them do Working Class Hero; I wanted to walk down to The Dakota and see where John Lennon was shot. After that we checked out some of Central Park and some other places within walking distance.Then my brother Karl and I spent our 2nd night at The Beacon Theatre for the actual Mule Year`s Eve theme show. They played a set of standard Gov`t Mule songs and covers. Then did a set of the entire: Joe Cocker Mad Dogs & Englishmen Vinyl album songs. Then a 3 song encore. Guests were The Assetts(Machan Taylor, Mini Carlsson & Alicia Shakur), Chronic Horns(Buford O’Sullivan, Pam Fleming & Jenny Hill), Oz Noy, Nigel Hall & Ron Johnson). After the show we walked about a block away and had a huge dinner........we hadn`t eaten since noon to get the full effect during the show. That and then a couple doobies and we were able to sleep. We woke up in the morning and I headed across the GWB to interstate 80 and home.

I just realised today that you can see me and my brother off and on during Feelin` Alright............Now that made me feel alright! Ever since I lost my brother, I look harder in videos for him as our family never took videos of anybody, so it really means a lot when I see him in videos !

While I was standing, between sets, I saw David Fricke(of Rolling Stone Magazine) about 5 rows behind me. I thought to myself..............I`m livin` large with better seats than David Fricke has ! If you watch the "Feelin` Alright video, you`ll get an idea of how many people were there and what a family the Gov`t Mule Brotherhood is ! When I see my brother and I in the Feelin` Alright video with blank expressions at midnight........I know that those around us KNEW we were PEAKIN` AT THE BEACON ! After all..........Mules second album was called Dose..............YAH MULE !!!
